The Representative Council

The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of O'Diako, responsible for the most important decisions and strategic directions. The Council meets a few times a year, with additional meetings held as needed. The meetings are open to all O'Diako members, who also have the right to speak during the sessions.

This means that if you wish, you can attend the meetings to listen and participate in the discussion. Important topics that affect the entire student body are addressed in these meetings, so attending is an excellent opportunity to gain information and influence shared matters.

Summaries of Representative Council Meetings

The minutes of the Representative Council meetings are open to all O'Diako members. However, there may be closed sessions during the meetings that are not included in the minutes.

Appointment of the Central Election Committee:

The proposal to appoint the Central Election Committee was deferred to the next meeting. The decision was made to address this matter at the next meeting.

Financial Statement 2023 and Audit Reports:

Due to the financial statement not being ready, the discussion was postponed to the next meeting.

​

Granting Discharge to the 2023 Boards:

The proposal to grant discharge was deferred to the next meeting. The decision was made to handle this at the next meeting.

​

Board Supplementary Search:

Three new board members were elected through voting and drawing lots for any ties.

​

Paid Summer Vacation Week for Employees:

It was proposed to grant one week of paid summer vacation for 2024. This proposal was approved.

​

New Financial Monitoring Practice:

The proposal to adopt a new financial monitoring practice and create a new role within the board was approved.

​

Reward Payment Guidelines:

The proposal to introduce new reward payment guidelines at the start of the fall semester was approved.

Opening of the Central Election Committee Application Period:

It was proposed that the opening of the application period for the Central Election Committee be discussed at the next representative council meeting. The decision was made to address this at the next meeting.

Financial Statement 2023 and Audit Reports:

The proposal to further postpone the discussion of the financial statement was approved. This will be handled at the next meeting.

​

Granting Discharge to the 2023 Boards and Other Responsible Parties:

The proposal to discuss granting discharge at the next representative council meeting was approved. This will be addressed at the next meeting.

​

Membership Fee for 2024-2025 and Refund Principles:

The board proposed membership fees and refund conditions for the next academic year. These proposals were approved as presented.

​

Anniversary Celebration 25+1 Budget, Time, and Place:

It was proposed that the anniversary celebration take place at Blue Peter in Helsinki on October 26, 2024, starting at 5 PM. The representative council approved the proposal and authorized the board to explore a cocktail event at other campuses.

​

One-Time Reward:

It was proposed to grant a one-time reward to the vice-chair for their contributions to the Oulu campus. This proposal was approved.

​

Board Supplementary Search:

The proposal to open the board supplementary search from April 29 to May 13 was approved.

​

Student Representative to the Church Youth Work Supervisory Group:

It was proposed to appoint the board’s spirituality officer as the student representative to the Church Youth Work Supervisory Group. This proposal was approved.

Appointment of Student Member to the Diaconia University Board:

The application period for the student board member was from March 1 to March 31, 2024. Two applications were received, both eligible for election. It was proposed to interview the applicants and select one. The decision was made to appoint one applicant.

Opening of the Central Election Committee Application Period:

It was proposed that the electoral districts and number of members for the Central Election Committee be discussed at the next meeting. The decision was made to address this at the next meeting.

​

Annual Report 2023:

The board reviewed the annual report in its March 21, 2024 meeting. The proposal to approve the 2023 annual report was approved.

​

Financial Statement 2023 and Audit Reports:

The proposal to defer the discussion of the financial statement and audit reports to the next representative council meeting was approved. This will be handled at the next meeting.

​

Granting Discharge to the 2023 Boards and Other Responsible Parties:

The proposal to discuss granting discharge at the next representative council meeting was approved. This will be addressed at the next meeting.

​

The board’s interim report on its activities was acknowledged. The decision was made to recognize this report.

Selection of the Executive Director:
The application period for the Executive Director was from December 14 to December 27, 2023, with 12 applications received. The recruitment team recommended one applicant for the role. The representative council decided to appoint this applicant as the Executive Director.
